Elders are elected by the members of Calvary to oversee our pastor, worship, and spiritual growth. Together with our pastor, they are called our session.  Paul outlines their qualifications in 1 Timothy 3.1-7.

MARK SALLADE – PASTOR

In 2003 Mark and Jenn were married and moved to the area for Mark’s studies at Westminster, joining Calvary that year. Prior to becoming a mother, Jenn taught elementary school from 2002-2008. Upon graduation, Mark was called as Calvary’s associate pastor (2006) and senior pastor (2008). Mark also serves on the Committee for Home Missions and Church Extension in the OPC and is a lecturer in preaching at Westminster Theological Seminary.  Mark and Jenn have two daughters: Anna Kate and Rachel. In their spare time, Jenn enjoys dance and Mark enjoys singing and the Phillies.

 

CALEB SMITH- ASSOCIATE PASTOR

Caleb and his wife, Erika, moved to Glenside in 2016 to serve as Calvary’s associate pastor.  Caleb is a native Texan and Erika a Californian.  They met as college students in San Antonio and were married in 2008.  In 2010 they studied at Mid-America Reformed Seminary; Caleb is currently finishing a degree with Fuller Theological Seminary.  The Smiths are expecting their first child!   When they’re sitting still, Erika loves books and theatre and Caleb enjoys playing guitar and a variety of sports.!

MARK BUBE

In 1991 the OPC’s Committee on Foreign Missions appointed Mark as its general secretary. Upon their arrival in the area, Mark and his wife Kathy became members of Calvary, where they especially appreciate the worship. Mark has served as an elder at Calvary since 1993.  As general secretary, he keeps busy visiting our missionaries and reporting to OP congregations.  Since 1999 Kathy has also worked as the administrator of the OPC’s Loan Fund.  Mark and Kathy enjoy traveling, reading, and playing with their dog Winston.

DAVID BURKETT

David and his wife Darlene joined Calvary in 1985 and that same year David was installed as an elder.  David and Darlene have three married children (Jonathan, Bethany VanVeldhuizen, and Brian), and four grandchildren.  David is presently also serving on Session at Grace Fellowship OPC.  He also serves on the Presbytery Committees for Diaconal Ministries, Church Visitation and Sessional Records, and Fraternal Relations.  David works as a chemist at Emerson Resources, and Darlene works at Aetna in Blue Bell.

BOB JONES

Bob and his wife Linda have been members of Calvary since 1995, and Bob has served as an elder since 1999. Presently they are involved with the College & Career group. Bob and Linda have a married son and daughter, each of whom have two boys. Bob works as a Sales Manager for Toshiba Industrial Systems and in his spare time enjoys playing his violin. Bob and Linda love the emphasis on the preached Word, the rich fellowship, and the student community at Calvary.

JOHN LIVINGSTON

The Livingstons moved to this area in 2003 for John to pursue studies at Westminster. That same year, they joined Calvary. John finished his degree at Westminster, but sensed his calling in the business world. He’s served as an elder since 2007 and oversees our children’s Sunday school. John and his wife Erin have four children: Machen, Demaree, Charlie and Amelie. John is Wine Director at Grand Cru Selections Wine Imports and Erin maintains their home and homeschools their children in Willow Grove.

BOB MEEKER

Bob and his late wife, Eleanor, were married in 1952 and joined Calvary in 1957 where they have been blessed together by the corporate worship of the Lord and the fellowship of brothers and sisters in Christ until Eleanor passed away in the Spring of 2015. Bob has served as an elder since 1965 and is active in the presbytery and denomination. After many years of work in life insurance, he retired and enjoys travelling, reading, moving watching, and following the Yankees and the Phillies.

DAVID NAKHLA

David grew up in an OP church in Southern CA where he was ordained both as a deacon (1997) and later as an elder (2002).  In 2010, the OPC’s Committee on Diaconal Ministries appointed him to serve as its first full-time administrator and coordinator of Short-Term Missions and Disaster Response, bringing David, Faith and their four (now five) children (Tina, Maddie, Emma, Josiah, and Marcus) east.  In 2015, Calvary elected David to serve as an elder.  He enjoys working with tools and being with his family.

ED TRESS

Ed and his wifeDiane joined Calvary in 1973.  Ed has served as an elder since 2004 and as Clerk of Session since 2005.  He also keeps busy serving on the Trustees for both our congregation and the OPC, as well as Treasurer for both Calvary and the presbytery.  Ed and Diane have three adult children (Jennifer, Jonathan and Jessica).  Prior to retirement, Ed worked for 35 years as an accountant for GlaxoSmithKline.  Ed and Diane enjoy traveling, cooking and gardening.

PHIL VANVELDHUIZEN

Phil has been a member at Calvary since 2003 and an elder since 2010.  He and his wife, Bethany were married in 2003 and have a two children.  For many years, they served in Calvary’s youth ministry.  They both work at Phil-Mont Christian Academy, where years ago they met in high school.  Bethany teaches secondary math and Phil works as the admissions and marketing manager.  In his free time Phil enjoys sports, movies and photography.
